New Mexico State Education Licensing Requirements:

Applicants who have received a degree from another state but did not get licensed there will have to meet NM licensure rules for the particular license. You are required to have completed an approved teacher education program and provide proof of passing the required NM exams. For particular licensure requirements, see http://ped.state.nm.us/Licensure/2010/index.html.

New Jersey participates in teacher reciprocity if the applicant holds a bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university, provides a copy of at least one current valid teaching license issued by a state education agency that is comparable to the license they are seeking, has completed a standard or alternative teacher preparation program, provides copies of test scores for exams required to receive the license, and provides evidence of having satisfactorily taught under their out-of-state licenses. See reciprocity details at https://webnew.ped.state.nm.us/bureaus/licensure/how-to-apply/.

Application form found at http://ped.state.nm.us/ped/LicensureDocs/Initial%20Application%20121510.pdf.

A non-refundable fee of $125 must be made out to New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) in the form of a money order or cashier’s check only. No personal checks will be accepted.

A background check is also required. Only out-of-state applicants may request a fingerprint packet by emailing [email protected]. In-state applicants must go to www.cogentid.com and use ORI# NM920140Z and Reason Code: TEACHER LICENSURE.
