District of Columbia Education Licensing Requirements:

All applicants who complete state-approved educator preparation programs at institutions or education organizations located outside of the District of Columbia must submit the Out-of-State Approved Program Verification Form (found at http://osse.dc.gov/sites/default/files/dc/sites/osse/publication/attachments/Approved%20Program%20Verificatio n%20Form_0.pdf) along with the Application for Initial District of Columbia Educator License (found at http://osse.dc.gov/sites/default/files/dc/sites/osse/publication/attachments/REGULAR%20II%20APP_%205%2 02012%28ell.FINAL_.5.15.12%29.pdf).

 

All applicants seeking issuance of an initial teacher credential in DC must hold a completed bachelor’s degree earned at an accredited college or university in addition to holding a valid full teaching credential that is in good standing, issued in another state; having achieved passing scores for a comparable basic skills and subject content exam(s) passed in another state required for the credential or has passed the DC-required exams; and presenting documentation verifying two years of full-time teaching experience in another state achieving an effective or equivalent rating measured by a summative evaluation or the student growth component of an evaluation. The experience must be completed within the previous three years with the most recent year showing an effective or higher rating.

 

All applicants seeking issuance of a standard credential in DC must hold a completed bachelor’s degree earned at an accredited college or university in addition to holding a valid full teaching credential that is in good standing, issued in another state; having achieved passing scores for comparable basic skills, subject content and pedagogy exams required in another state; and presenting documentation verifying two years of full-time teaching experience in another state achieving an effective or equivalent rating as measured by a summative evaluation or the student growth component of an evaluation. The experience must be completed within the previous three years with the most recent year showing an effective or higher rating.

Application supporting documents include: personal criminal history record report, official education transcripts, the aforementioned Out-of-State Approved Program Verification Form, copy of all pages of applicant’s examinee score report(s), copy of valid educator credential from another state, verification of full- time experience, LEA annual performance evaluation review and professional development (PD) training completion certificates or PD transcripts. All applicants seeking issuance of an initial teacher credential in DC must hold a completed bachelor’s degree earned at an accredited college or university. Applicants for licensure are subject to a $50 Licensure Services Fee (https://osse.dc.gov/page/teacher-certification).
