Rhode Island State Education Licensing Requirements:

Individuals who have completed state-approved preparation programs that lead to comparable certification in RI should review the RI certification (http://www.ride.ri.gov/Certification)and testing requirements (http://www.ride.ri.gov/Portals/0/Uploads/Documents/Teachers-and-Administrators-Excellent- Educators/Educator-Certification/Cert-main-page/RI_Required_Certification_Tests.pdf) prior to submitting an application.

The Temporary Initial Preliminary Certificate Application form is found at http://www.ride.ri.gov/Portals/0/Uploads/Documents/Teachers-and-Administrators-Excellent- Educators/Educator-Certification/Cert-main-page/RI-Certification-AppForm-TempInitial.pdf. This type of certificate is awarded to an individual who has completed an approved preparation program in another state or is fully certified in another state and meets all issuance requirements for an Initial Educator Certificate except RI certification test requirements for the certificate.

A $100 certification application processing, non-refundable fee must be submitted with the application. Checks may be made out to General Treasurer – State of Rhode Island.

Application processing takes 14-16 weeks. All applications must include completed Sections A, B, and C of the appropriate application, the assessment information, official transcripts, and a letter from a prior employer or a completed Work Experience Verification form (found at http://www.ride.ri.gov/Portals/0/Uploads/Documents/Teachers-and-Administrators-Excellent- Educators/Educator-Certification/Cert-main-page/Work_Experience_Verification_Form_Nov2013.pdf) if the certificate area requires work experience, and the appropriate fee.
